Course access in Coursepath: From self-registration to voucher system

One important aspect of an online academy is member management. There are many different ways of inviting new members and also in letting participants register for themselves. This article is meant to give you an overview of registration possibilities in Coursepath.


Coursepath offers 2 general methods of adding members to the academy:

  • Flexible per self-registration
  • Access to defined user groups

Within those methods, there are more ways of defining access to academy and courses. You can also choose a combination of different methods. Also, you can always add new members via email invitation.

Access via self-registration

  1. Open course
    An open course, also known as MOOC, is available to anyone. If someone finds the course via the internet, e.g. in social networks, he simply registers per email address and starts learning immediately.
  2. Open course within the academy
    People already registered in the academy can visit other courses in the academy. This is only possible if the other courses are defined for access to academy members.
  3. E-commerce
    Like in an open course, anyone can register in an e-commerce course. However, content becomes visible only when a defined course fee has been paid. This can be done via PayPal or Mollie.
  4. Registration by acceptance
    Anyone can find the course, but before content becomes visible, registration has to be approved. Visitors use a registration button, which sends an inquiry to the system. The academy manager or an assistant than has to accept the registration inquiry, in order to let the participant start learning. Access can also be denied, of course.

Inviting defined user groups

  1. Invitation by email address
    If participants including email address are known, invitation by email address is a smart and uncomplicated way to choose. Simply upload e.g. an Excel or CSV file with participants’ data. You can send an invitation mail to all the participants, who in turn simply confirm the activation link.
  2. Voucher system
    If participants’ mail addresses are unknown, there is another way to choose: Coursepath’s voucher system. This could be the case when a customers’ employees or partners should be invited. Read more about the voucher system in the paragraph below.
  3. Anonymous access codes
    If mail addresses are not known or members’ identities should be hidden in total, you can create anonymous access codes. The disadvantage: participants will not receive system mails such as notifications, reminders and comments from other participants or trainers.
  4. Via Single-Sign-On (SSO)
    For companies using Single-Sign-On, it is very easy to give access to the academy. Participants are logged in to the Coursepath academy automatically when they enter one of the company’s systems, e.g. their intranet.

Advantages of self-registration

Via self-registration buttons and vouchers, interested people can register for a course. While the user gains some control over his process, academy managers are still the final decision makers. Users can only enter the course if the manager or an assistant approves the registration inquiry. He or she can also deny access to the user.

Inviting external users with voucher codes

With voucher codes you can create an optional number of codes. Those codes can be used to create full user accounts afterwards. You could give e.g. 100 codes to a partnering company who will pass on the codes to their employees. Each employee will use his or her code to create an account in Coursepath.
